Many people have concerns and questions about CrossFit. The best thing to do to understand CrossFit is to come in and try it, but we know that it can be a little intimidating.
You may think:
I DON’T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THE PEOPLE I SEE IN THE PHOTOS DOING CROSSFIT.
The people you see doing CrossFit did not look like that when they began either. CrossFit truly does transform your body. There are plenty of regular people at different levels in CrossFit. All CrossFit gyms have a variety of body-types and ages. CrossFitters are some of the most supportive people I know.
I AM NOT VERY WELL CONDITIONED. I NEED TO GET FIT BEFORE I START CROSSFIT?
No, CrossFit is the perfect starting point for CrossFit. Anyone, no matter your age, current weight or fitness level can start CrossFit today. It is high intensity training but, but our coaches know just how to scale each workout to suit you and to encourage the intensity appropriate to your physical capacity.
I HAVE SOME NIGGLES AND SOME INJURIES. MAYBE CROSSFIT IS TOO MUCH FOR ME.
CrossFit can actually help with your injuries. Once you are cleared to exercise, CrossFit is perfectly fine. All you have to do is let your coaches know the specifics of your injuries, and we can work with you to customize workouts to your movement capacity.
I HAVE HEARD THAT CROSSFIT IS NOT SAFE.
The movements taught in CrossFit are the same as movements taught in many other disciplines. At our gym, we do require intensity, but we don’t do it at the expense of proper form and safety. You are constantly supervised by a coach during class and we are very attentive to your level and scaling needs. Though the movements we teach can be technically difficult, we take great care in your learning and practice to ensure that you perform each movement correctly and safely. CrossFit is no more dangerous than any other physical endeavor.
I HAVE NEVER WORKED WITH A BARBELL OR GYMNASTIC RINGS. WILL I BE LOST IN CLASS?
It does not matter if you have never seen a barbell or performed a pull-up. We are there to teach you and help you practice all CrossFit skills and movements. All new members are put through a Fundamentals program where we teach you all the fundamental movements before you enter the regular classes. At the commencement of each and every session, everyone receives coaching on each movement before the work out starts.
I AM STILL HESITANT TO START, HELP ME?
If you want to change your life, you have to take the steps. No one else is going to do it for you.
Many people have limitations and these CAN be worked with and/or worked around. Don’t confuse limitations with excuses. I can’t do CrossFit because I’m overweight? That’s an excuse. I can’t do CrossFit because I have an old injury? That’s an excuse. Don’t let your excuses get in the way. CrossFit really is for everyone
